The Prairie North Health Region is hoping the long-awaited arrival of 21 Registered nurses from the Phillipines alleviates the pressure surrounding Prairie North's staffing shortages.
The region has long struggled with staffing issues, especially with RN's, but Prairie North is finalizing arrangements for the arrival of nine of the 21 RN's the region recruited as part of a provincial trip to the Phillipines in late February of this year.
Seven of the first RN's who arrive in mid-September will be placed in acute care, long-term care and mental health care in the Battlefords, while two of the nine will work in acute care in Lloydminster.
Placements for the additional 12 recruits - who are set to arrive early in the new year - will be based determined on need.
