The Lloydminster Area Drug Strategy and Action Committee has released the results of a spring survey that shows both residents and businesses in town perceive alcohol and drugs to be a huge concern for the community.
The survey, conducted by Ipsos-Reid, showed that 89 per cent of residents and 95 per cent of businesses feel people abusing drugs and alcohol is a problem. Committee co-ordinator Teressa Krueckl said the decision to hire Ipsos-Reid to conduct a survey came back to the group's mandate, which is to mobilize the community, and that a survey among the residents of Lloydminster was the best way to accomplish that.
Despite the findings, Krueckl feels the committee is heading in the right direction with their work, and will officially present the findings of the survey to the community on Sept. 9 at the Common Wealth Centre, after which she will be taking questions from the audience. There will be two meetings that day, one at 11:30 a.m. and another at 6:30 p.m. Anyone interested in attending can contact the committee office at 871-0735.
